Pretrial Wants to Abolish Private Bail

Below is a video clip taken from the NAPSA (National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies) website advertising its annual conference this year called “Game Plan for Change.” The video reviews key speakers at last year’s conference. Rep. Fred Kessler of Wisconsin was applauded when he said, “We can abolish professional bail bonding in the United States.”

PBUS (Professional Bail Agents of the United States) recently alerted its members saying: “…The National Association of Counties (NACo) and the Pre-Trial Justice Institute (PJI) have formed an alliance, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the U.S. Department of Justice to complete a no-cost technical analysis of current jail population. You know that they will find or create issues of jail overcrowding and that will lead them to recommend the creation of or expansion of a PTR program. (PBUS interpretation: GET RID OF THE BAIL AGENT!)”

  1. I`m concerned! How is it that we are being so assault by bureaucrats. They are attempting to replace us with paper pushers. They have no idea what it takes or how to go about finding someone not wanting to be found.
We are true professionals, well a majority of us are. They can have a head start on us we will still find them. Those stupid bracelets are no deterent! I`ve had one guy cut the thing on his way to deliver the unit back! The monitoring company didn`t even call me. I told him what I really thought of his attentiveness and thanks for the heads up. I caught him and wanted to pull the gold tooth right out of his head. Would somebody please qualify my concerns and rebut what these morons think they can do. Our services are 99% effective, theres is a blatant attempt at trying to justify their jobs.
What are they going to do when they cut and run?
Call the cops? They cost lots of money too. Ours is a free service that gets real results.

  2. It's been proven time and time again. Jurisdictions without professional bail bonding suffer dramatically increased FTA rates, recidivism (SP?) and increased crime rates. The state of Oregon is a testament to this. It's so bad there, they're giving serious consideration to reinstating professional surety bonds.
